LSU baseball wins both Saturday scrimmages against Samford

BILOXI, Miss. – LSU baseball gave a sneak peek at what to expect from its new-look lineup in its first Fall ball scrimmages of the season as the Tigers won both 6-inning scrimmages on Saturday against Samford. The Tigers won game one 11-0 and game two 12-1

In game one, it was the transfer portal additions making their presence felt in the LSU lineup. Tulane transfer Jason Wachs hit the first home run of the day, and he’d be followed up with blasts from former Florida Gator Cade Kurland hitting a two-run shot of his own, and then it was Oregon transfer Angel Lays smashing a grand slam.

On the mound, Williams Schmidt started game one, and he threw two innings of scoreless baseball with a couple of strikeouts. Also making an appearance on the mound was freshman Lucas Nawrocki, who’s going to play both ways at LSU. During his pitching appearance in game one, Nawrocki struck out five through two innings. In game two, Nawrocki started at DH and went 1-for-3 with a 2-RBI triple.

The Tigers are set for two more six-inning games with Samford on Sunday, Nov. 1.
