Southern looks to build off recent success as Jags return home for matchup with Bethune-Cookman

BATON ROUGE — After three road games and a bye week in October, the Jags are back on The Bluff this weekend to face the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

The Jags have a 4-5 record after last week’s win over Florida A&M.

In Tuesday’s weekly press conference, head coach Marshall Faulk called the last three weeks of away games a tough stretch. However, he believes sometimes it’s harder to win at home as opposed to being on the road.

“A lot of our kids they’re homegrown. When you’re homegrown, your distractions are in front of you. When you go on the road, it’s just you and your teammates. You don’t have those distractions,” Faulk said.

The last month has been a bit of a rollercoaster for Southern. They were dominated by Arkansas Pine-Bluff for homecoming, picked up their first SWAC win over Prairie View, lost a close game to Texas Southern and then handled Florida A&M with a 28-point victory.

Faulk believes his team is starting to gel and become more bought in than ever before.

He said, despite the win, he doesn’t want the team to dwell on it too much.

“As good as this game felt to win, we have a game coming up on Saturday and we have to show people again who we are, how we play and what our identity is,” Faulk said.
